Welcome, Families of St. John Fisher Parish

,We practice and live our faith by actively participating in a relationship with Christ.  We invite you and your family to embrace and grow in faith with the support and guidance of Faith Formation.  Here are the elements of our program:

Family Faith Formation: Kindergarten - 7th Grade
We are proud to offer comprehensive and grade-appropriate programs that embrace our families and their children in the growth and demonstration of their love of Jesus, His teachings and their Catholic faith.

Confirmation Program:
The Hartford Archdiocese Confirmation program is currently transitioning from 10th grade Confirmation to 8th grade Confirmation.  This is a multi-year transition process.  As a result, the 2026-27 Confirmation Program will include 8th and 9th grade teens.  The 9th grade teens will get confirmed in the late spring of 2027 and the 8th grade teens will get confirmed as 9th graders in the early fall of 2027.  The 2027-28 Confirmation Program will only encompass 8th grade teens with a Confirmation date in the late spring of 2028.

Confirmation is the third and final sacrament of initiation into the Catholic Church but it is not the end instead it is the beginning of their new future in the Catholic Church.  Candidates are entering into a new phase of their faith journey which is accepting their role as a missionary witness of Jesus Christ.  This is an important time for our candidates to recommit to their faith through knowing and following Jesus by serving community and parish.   The candidates will prepare for their final initiation through monthly classes held downstairs in the church hall and ongoing family-oriented community service events held at our parish and offsite locations.

Additional community service opportunities available to all high schoolers including Confirmation candidates can be accessed on this tab.

Youth Ministry
Your faith practice does not end when Faith Formation classes stop!  St. John Fisher Faith Formation Youth Ministry is combining efforts with the YM Team at The Church of the Holy Family, located in Hebron, for our meetings and activities.  This is a great collaboration considering most of our teens in both programs attend RHAM.  Meetings are held once a month at the St. Columba Parish Hall meeting site located at 328 CT-66, Columbia, 6:30 to 8:30.
We welcome 8th grade and all high schoolers to join us for fun and fellowship.

Adults
Throughout the year, St. John Fisher offers opportunities for adults to gather, grow, and serve as Christians.   Please contact Jim Castellani for more information, including our OCIA, Men's Prayer Group, and Knights of Columbus.  In addition, for more opportunities for women and men, please contact Barbara Meyer.

Volunteer for Faith Formation at St. John Fisher!

2026-2027 Program Overview

  • Kindergarten, Grade 1, Grades 3-7: Family Faith Formation: The Family Faith Formation is embracing the curriculum set up by the Archdiocese of Hartford. We will be incorporating age- appropriate lessons with ongoing Family-Oriented Community Service events each month held at the church and nearby locations. Following the Family Mass, we will have a Family- Oriented community service project that aligns with the lessons taught that month. You can reach Cindy via email at [email protected].
  • Grade 2 (First Reconciliation & First Holy Communion) and Confirmation (grades 9 and 10):  Helena Thomas will lead our programs for the Sacramental years.  Helena's direct contact information is [email protected].
